SCRIPTURE: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 NIV & For Everything There Is a Time, song by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 [there is] a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and
a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
- For everything there is a time —
A season for each thing we do.
We’re born, and one day we will die;
O God, we live our lives in you. - There’s time to gently plant the seed
And time to harvest with a song.
Some fall — and then we heal, indeed.
We break, and then we build up strong. - We laugh with joy and also weep;
We mourn a loss then dance again.
Some stones we toss and some we keep.
We may embrace; we may refrain. - We seek the things we want each day;
At times we also sadly lose.
We keep — then sometimes throw away.
To tear or mend? We daily choose. - At times we talk, and then we cease;
We fall for hate and fight our wars.
We learn your love and work for peace:
O God, in every time, we’re yours. - From birth to death and all between
In all the cycles of our years
Our gratitude is ever green;
We sob our joy and laugh our tears.
