SCRIPTURE:
Isaiah 51:1-2 Living Bible
1-2 [Isaiah said:] Listen to me, all who hope for deliverance, who seek God! Consider the quarry from which you were mined, the rock from which you were cut! Yes, think about your ancestors Abraham and Sarah, from whom you came. You worry at being so small and few, but Abraham was only one when I called him. When I blessed [he and Sarah, they] became a great nation.
Matthew 11:16-20, 25, 28 New International Version
16 [Jesus said:] “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
17 “‘We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’
[‘We played ‘wedding’ and you didn’t play,
so we played ‘funeral’ and you still didn’t play.’]
18 John [the Baptizer] came neither eating nor drinking, and they say,
‘He has a demon.’
19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say,
‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’
But wisdom is proved right by her deeds. [Literally, ‘Wisdom is justified by her children.’]”
20 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent….
25 Then Jesus said, “I praise you, [Abba, God] of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children….
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
