Look to the Stars

Look to the Stars

We last week we left off with Adam and Eve having eaten of the “forbidden fruit”  and what that might mean in terms of the human condition. This week we’ll take a big leap, as we look at Abram (later known is Abraham) and his journey. It’s a long and complicated one, and it but we will be honing in on just a small, and I think very human, part of Abram’s story. It’s a big, scary out world there, and sometimes it can all just be… well… too much. So what do we do keep ourselves grounded, centered, present. While his story is fraught with problems (perhaps like us all?), we may have something to learn from Abram. -Pastor Paul Baudhuin

SCRIPTURE: Genesis 15:1-6 (NRSVUE)

15 After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” But Abram said, “O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”[a] And Abram said, “You have given me no offspring, so a slave born in my house is to be my heir.” But the word of the Lord came to him, “This man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your heir.” He brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” And he believed the Lord, and the Lord[b] reckoned it to him as righteousness.
