SCRIPTURE: Exodus 3:1-14, The Voice Translation

Narrator: 1 Now Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian. One day he led the flock to the farthest end of the wilderness, coming to Horeb, where the mountain of God stood. 2 There, the Special Messenger of the Eternal appeared to Moses in a flame of fire from within a bush. Moses looked at the bush as it blazed; but to his amazement, the bush did not burn up in flames.
Moses: 3 I will go now, and see this great sight. Why is the bush not burnt?
Narrator: 4 The Eternal One saw Moses approach the burning bush to observe it more closely, and called out to Moses from within the bush.
Adonai: Moses! Moses!
Moses: “Hineni!” (I’m right here.)
Adonai: 5 Don’t come any closer. Take off your sandals and stand barefoot on the ground, for this is holy ground. 6 I am The Eternal of your [ancestors], the God of Abraham, [Sarah], Isaac, [and Rebecca]…
Narrator: Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at The Eternal.
Adonai: 7 I have seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their slave masters; I know their pains. 8 So I will deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and bring them into… a land flowing with milk and honey. 9-10 I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people out from Egypt.”
Moses: 11 Who am I to confront Pharaoh and lead Israel’s children out of Egypt?
Adonai: 12 Do not fear, Moses. I will be with you every step of the way….
Moses: 13 Let’s say I go to the people of Israel and tell them, “The Eternal One has sent me to rescue you,” and they ask me, “What is the Eternal One’s name?” What should I say to them?
Adonai: 14 I AM WHO I AM. This is what you should tell the people: “I AM has sent me to rescue you. This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.
